“Not many people know this, but Johannesburg is the worlds largest urban forest. From most vantage points you can see only treetops, and at the right time of year, these trees are purple. Roads are lined with jacarandas that bloom in the most gentle tones. Then all at once, they rain lavender coloured pearls. The warm orange African sun, backlighting the now empty branches. This is my favorite time to drive, on the back of a bike, through the suburbs of Jozi.”

Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Danielle Clough studied art direction and graphic design before embarking on a career in visual art, digital design and thing-making. She finds inspiration from a new tool or challenge, a color she’s recently fallen in love with or a strange surface that begs to be stitched on. Her creative goal is to express the best of human emotion through art and hopes that her work evokes happiness.
