About
Sewing with the pre-printed canvas and soft 100% wool tapestry yarn provided in this kit will give you a new way to experience Van Gogh’s Chair. Painted in 1888, shortly after his friend, and fellow artist, Paul Gauguin had joined him in Arles in the south of France, his painting was intended to be hung alongside another painting, Gauguin’s Chair.
Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Van Gogh has become one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. His landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits are characterised by bold colours and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork.
The National Gallery, London houses one of the greatest collections of paintings in the world. Its collection boasts 2,300 works including many famous paintings such as van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, Velázquez’s Rokeby Venus, Turner’s Fighting Temeraire and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. All major traditions of Western European painting are represented from the artists of the late medieval era and Renaissance Italy to the French Impressionists.
